The main route of the Camino de Santiago, Camino Francés leads pilgrims over the Pyrenees. The WAY (Camino de Santiago) winds through the vineyards of Rioja into the lonely stretches of Castile, and the green hills and valleys of Galicia for some 800 km, before reaching Santiago de Compostela and its impressive Cathedral. The versatility of the landscapes, the cultural treasures of the cities along the Way, and the encounters with people from all over the world, make this hike an unforgettable experience. The author Raimund Joos, who walks this and other Ways of St. James for several of months each year, describes the Camino Francés in 140 concise stages, which can be individually arranged to daily stages. Also, interesting detours and the continuing way from Santiago to Finisterre are introduced. For the current published 18th edition, which was published in English for the first time, the descriptions were completely updated and new, improved maps, scaled 1:200.000, were painted. At every stage, overnight stays in refuges are naturally listed, so the pilgrim can easily find a place after a hard day. Information about sights along the Way and important general hints on topics such as "arrival and departure", "equipment", and "language", complete the description of the Way.

Dr. Raimund Joos has lived on the East Bavarian Way of St. James in Eichstätt (Germany) since 1988. There, he studied pedagogy, Spanish, and theology, and within the scope of his PHD studies spent a longer research term at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, IN (USA). He was later employed in the education field of adultand applied sciences. Since 1992, he has made pilgrimages in Spain, France, Portugal and Germany. Beginning in 2004, he has primarily worked as a hospitalero (refuge manager), travel book author, and travel guide on the Ways of St. James. He also leads weekend seminars for preparation for the Way of St. James. As of 2013, he has devoted himself to the idea of a World Peace Way (www.worldpeace-way.org). Aside from other publications in various media, the following books have been published by the Conrad Stein Verlag only in German: "Pilgrimage Stories of the Many Ways of Saint James", "Pilgrimage on the Ways of Saint James", "Portable Phrase Book - Spanish and Beyond on the Way of Saint James", "Spain: Way of Saint James - Via de la Plata", "Portugal: Way of Saint James - Caminho Português", "Spain: Way of
Saint James - The Northern Way", "Spain: The English Way", and "Northern Spain: The Way of Saint James - The Original Way". A guide for the Camino Inglés is currently in progress. More information on Raimund Joos can be found at www.camino-de-santiago.de.
